- Employees have donated £12,000 to University Hospitals Birmingham Charity
- Funds will go towards technology to enable isolated coronavirus patients have video calls with loved ones
- Donation will also provide meals and toiletries for staff on the NHS frontline
- Brings total donations from Solihull and Castle Bromwich employee Charity Committees during coronavirus crisis to more than £31,000
Friday 24th April 2020, Whitley, UK – Employees at Jaguar Land Rover Solihull and Castle Bromwich are supporting coronavirus patients in Birmingham and Solihull hospitals, by providing new technology that will enable them to speak with their families during isolation.
An employee-led charity committee at the manufacturer’s Solihull plant has donated £10,000 to the University Hospitals Birmingham Charity for equipment for patients with coronavirus. The donation is the second made by the committee during the Covid-19 crisis, after the group donated more than £17,000 to local charities last month.
At Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich site in Birmingham, employees have given a further £2,000 through their own charity committee to provide tablet computers specifically for elderly care wards.
The tablets will help those battling the virus communicate with loved ones. Meanwhile new radios will provide entertainment for patients.
The money will also offer some respite for staff at Solihull, Queen Elizabeth, Good Hope and Heartlands hospitals, providing meals, snacks and toiletries for those working long hours on the NHS frontline.
As a charity, our mission is to provide ‘added extras’ for our staff and patients across the Trust, and at this difficult time this is more important than ever.
The money will provide items to keep our patients entertained and connected while they are in hospital and unable to see visitors. Technology like tablets for wards enables patients to speak to their loved ones via video call, and radios so that patients can listen to music in hospital.
We will also be able to provide food and drink for our staff to help them through their shifts, as well as hand creams and other toiletries. None of this would be possible without the support and generosity that we’re so grateful to receive from organisations such as Jaguar Land Rover.

In addition to these donations, Jaguar Land Rover has designed and produced 3D-printed protective visors for NHS frontline staff with deliveries of this Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) going to local hospitals and NHS Trusts, including Birmingham Hospitals Alliance, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Castle Practice in Castle Bromwich, South Central Solihull Hub and Solihull Rural PCN, with many more planned.
